Purchasing and Inflation – Learning from Brazil
In Europe, we almost forgot about inflation. After periods of deflation and mild inflation, purchasers are confronted with strong price increases.
Are you prepared? Can you handle inflation issues?
The new task of European purchasers is to manage price fluctuations in the coming years. But how to react and possibly benefit from this new business constellation?
Can we learn from the experience of purchasers in other parts of the world, like Brazil, where stronger inflation is normal?
Fábio Fontes will share his experiences and demonstrate an inflation-handling tool that has been used in Brazil for over a year. Fabio is a PhD candidate at UTwente and CPO of a multinational pharma company in Brazil.
Purchasing professor Holger Schiele (UTwente) grew up in Brazil during the time of hyperinflation and, since then, researched the phenomenon. He will explain how inflation is driven by exceptional events and some fundamental drivers.
The meeting will focus on the following issues:
- How to be prepared for price controls and trade regulations,
- Purchaser becomes trader, hence closing the ties with sales gets elemental,
- Operative procurement needs to become agile, requiring IT systems.
